1st Annual Commemoration of the End of World War II

The 1st Annual Commemoration of the End of World War II takes place in East Hartford, CT. on September 17-18, 2022.

September 17th – Presentation program about the USS Indianapolis.  Presented by James Belcher whose father survived the sinking.  On July 30, 1945, the ship was returning from delivering parts for the Atom Bomb when it was hist and sunk by a Japanese submarine.  Most of the crew was killed and the remaining survivors struggled to survive in the ocean for almost 5 days before they were rescued.  Belcher will describe the event and bring memorabilia from the ship and its survivors.  The presentation will be followed by refreshements and then a showing of the documentary, “The USS Indianapolis:  The Legacy”.  The program is FREE but you must register by calling (860) 810-8736 or email WW2LegacyFoundation@yahoo.com.  The program takes place at Cabela’s of East Hartford, 10:30 a.m.

September 18th – A Commemorative Luncheon will take place at the Holiday Inn of East Hartford.  Join us as we Honor and Remember those who served in World War II and those who are no longer with us.  All WWII Veterans are FREE.  All others are $50 each.  Some of the details we are working on for Sunday’s event includes the following:  The Iwo Jima/World War II Museum will be on display in the parking lot, all WWII Vets will have a professional portrait taken, they will be interviewed to have a custom painting done of them, display by Aaron Elson, possibly a 1941 Plymouth convertible on display, emcee by Steve Parker, silent raffles, Quilts of Valor, USS Indianapolis memorabilia will be on display by our Guest Speaker, Jim Belcher the son of a survivor and a very special guest will be joining us by Zoom or phone.
